Yudansha Ju Jitsu Kai
The Yudansha Ju Jitsu Kai was formed by Barry Williams and Derek Fairhurst in 1990 for the practise, preservation and study of traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu. We are not a sport. We practise Tenshin Shinyo Ryu Ju Jitsu and Goshin Jitsu techniques. We have links to a number of martial arts organisations worldwide including the Tenyo Kai in Tokyo, Japan and the Martial Arts Development Commission in the UK.
More recently the day to day development of the Yudansha Kai has been passed to Tony Blackmore and Jonathan Hughes.
The bedrock of our system are the kata forms of the Tenshin Shinyo Ryu Ju Jitsu School.
Tenshin Shinyo Ryu was formed by the merging of two, much older schools - Yoshin Ryu and Shin-no-Shindo Ryu. It was once the most popular ju jitsu school in Japan.
The Yudansha Ju Jitsu Kai is not a club. It is a society based on the principles of reigi and consequently membership is by invitation only.

Derek Fairhurst receiving the Tenshin Shinyo Ryu Ju Jitsu menkyo (literally - "certificate") from Kubota Sensei in Tokyo - Shoden rank. Also known as Shoden Kirigami Menjo.
